Because the app is currently unsigned, XLabs does not silently replace itself. For Windows/macOS security prompts, open the FAQ and search for setup or agent.

Lab Execution Preferences

Choose how XLabs should start your lab environments by default.

You can set this from Profile → Lab Execution Preferences. This setting controls what happens when you click Start Lab.

Auto

Best default for most users. XLabs chooses the best available option based on your environment.

Local Execution

Use this after installing the XLabs App and Docker. It runs labs on your machine and is best for regular practice.

Cloud Execution

Use this when you want instant access without local setup. Cloud labs use shared resources and may use credits.

Recommended path: start with Auto, switch to Local Execution after the XLabs App shows as connected, and use Cloud Execution when you are on a device where Docker/local setup is not available.

Local Execution Setup

Run labs on your own machine with Docker. Simple setup, no complex installation.

Local Requirements

Docker Desktop must be installed and running

XLabs uses Docker for lab containers. On Windows, the local terminal is launched through Git Bash.

Installation Steps

Quick Install: Download and run the installer for your platform

Download XLabs App

Quick Setup (2 minutes)

1.Extract the downloaded ZIP file to your Desktop (contains installer)

2.Go to the extracted folder and Shift + Right-click → "Open PowerShell window here"

Run this PowerShell command to bypass security warnings:

Unblock-File -Path "xlabs-client-*-installer.exe"

This removes the "unknown publisher" warning for the downloaded executable

4.Right-click the installer → "Run as administrator" to install XLabs

Why these steps? Windows requires this one-time setup to trust the unsigned application. The PowerShell command removes download restrictions safely.

After running the app, check the status card at the top of this page. When it shows "Connected", you can start any lab from your browser.
